Children’s Book Brings Awareness to Ocean Conservancy
Updated: May 3
Kanunie and Sandy – Secrets of the Magic Key, is a book written by Laurie Hart and illustrated by Caroline Hart aimed at educating children in a fun way, about the importance of caring for each other and the planet.
It all started with a lion and camper van! When Caroline showed me one of her drawings from her sketch pad, I was intrigued by the orange lion sitting in the driver’s seat of a VW camper.
As my mind tends to wonder to the creative side, I wanted to know more about this fur ball and was sure children would too. Everyone has a story, especially a lion driving a camper van. What’s inside? Where was he going?
After so many what if’s and the love for the ocean, a story of inspiration, friendship and ocean conservancy was born. Now my vision had to come to life on paper, both literally and visually. This is where Caroline and I’s collaboration to show and tell would collide.
Do you know about Garbage Patches?
There’s so much junk at sea, the debris has formed giant garbage patches. There are five of them around the world, and the largest — the Great Pacific Garbage Patch — includes an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of trash and covers an area twice the size of Texas. ~ Conservation International
Sandy fights for her life ... will anyone help her!
