Hollywood Studios Tops Disney's Theme Park Poll!
Updated: Jul 16
We recently ran a poll ~ "If you could only go to one Disney theme park which would you choose?" ~ and Hollywood Studios was a clear winner and we can tell you, it must be because of the all new Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, which is out of this world!
With our big move to Florida and dramatic change in lifestyle this year, we decided to give each other the gift of magic and become Disney Passholders. We have visited all 4 parks and walked over 60,000 steps discovering the magic of Walt Disney’s Kingdom.
Starring Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios is the most fantastic mix of past, present and future. When you walk down Hollywood Boulevard it’s like stepping back in time to classic Hollywood and you feel like the star of the film.
We turned the next corner and launched off on our first Star Tours ride – The Adventure Continues, a 3D space flight which got us shrieking and laughing as we flew around the galaxy at great speed.
The new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is out of this world, as we walked around taking in the breathtaking scenery, it felt like we were on a Star Wars film set, especially when Chewbacca strolled out for a meet and greet. For all the die-hard Star Wars fans this is where it’s at, the Rise of the Resistance experience is totally mind blowing and takes you to a whole new dimension of theme park rides, as you battle against the First Order! After your thrilling interactive smuggling mission, on Milliennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, you can head over to the Star Wars Launch Bay where you can view everything movie related from props to screen videos. You can even build your own lightsaber at Savi's Workshop!
Toy Story Land makes you feel you shrunk down to being toy sized as everything is giant. The Slinky Dog Dash is a real fun roller-coaster, great for all the family. If you’re up for something more dramatic then head over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith and be ready to blast off, or be prepared to take a massive drop at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
We could hear the screams from the Tower of Terror as we waited for the Beauty and the Beast Live Stage Show. The tale may be as old as time, but this show was fresh and vibrant. All the actors in the show were the image of the characters from the film and the song and dance routines were dazzling.
After taking the Voyage of The Little Mermaid, the Muppet Vision Extravaganza and watching the tribute to Walt Disney in “Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream”, we were ready for an ice cream from Epic Eats which we ate looking out over Echo Lake.
The Majesty of The Magic Kingdom
As soon as we entered the Magic Kingdom we were heartily welcomed by one of the many cast members, whether it’s the security guards checking the bags or those working on transportation, everyone makes you feel like an important guest. That was always Walt’s plan for adults and children alike, to make the whole experience extra-special. Stepping onto Main Street, U.S.A. and looking up towards the iconic Cinderella’s Castle you are transported from real-life to an enchanted world of fantasy. It is pure escapism at its very best, we both love natural wonders, but this world allows you to be a kid again and embrace unadulterated fun. Everyone is walking around with their Mickey ears and Disney garb, throwing themselves into the experience with great enthusiasm.
We headed to Tomorrowland, where you can find Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway and Astro Orbiter. We love Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, as you sit back in your theater seat, it takes you through the 20th century and how technology has changed and improved our lives.
Fantasyland hosts Under the Sea Journey of The Little Mermaid, a must for all those mermaid lovers. We had fun at the Enchanted Tales with Belle, this is perfect for little kids who like to participate in the action. Other favorites of ours are Peter Pan’s Flight, where you magically fly over London and of course, It’s a small world, which leaves you singing for the rest of the day!
When you reach Liberty Square you are greeted with the splendid scene of old America, where you can board the Liberty Belle and cruise around the river. On one side you’ll see the spooktacular Haunted Mansion and on the other, in Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, both are real favorites of ours.
EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow)
Epcot is a park where you can visit 11 different countries all in one day, experiencing the individual taste of each one, it’s like being able to take a mini world trip by foot. The countries are centered around a picturesque lake with Spaceship Earth at the start, on this ride you explore history from the Stone Age to the Digital Age. If you are like us and have been loving the Disney+ original series Imagineering, then you will love the new Walt Disney Imagineering presents the Epcot Experience. It gives you an in-depth look, in a futuristic way, at what is coming to Epcot in the future.
Our favorite ride in Epcot is Soarin’ Around the World, it’s the closest thing to actually flying, as your feet dangle and you swoop down towards the ocean, you feel like you will touch the water, it feels so real. A ride we were surprised about was Living with the Land, presented by Chiquita, you ride a boat through greenhouses and get a taste of science. We love Disney’s environmental programs; Walt was dedicated to leaving the planet a better place and his original concept is being continued.
As you walk through World Showcase, it is so much fun getting the taste and feels of each country, the attention to detail is incredible. Between us we have visited 8 of the 11 countries in real life and we have to say the accuracy of these replicas is pretty amazing.
From the quaint streets of England, with it's pubs, phone boxes and tea shops, to the wonders of Italy's architecture and the exotic delights of Morocco, to name just a few highlights. Don't know if it was just the national foods in each country but everywhere smelt fabulous!
As evening fell the new beauty of Epcot was illuminated with its magnificent reflection across the lake.
We finished our day joining the massive crowd gathered for the spectacular Epcot Forever firework display, we snagged ourselves a great view point sitting on a wall, watching the show we sipped hot chocolate, even though it was still 80°F, to gasps, ooh’s and ahh’s, it truly was memorable.
Going Wild for Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom is a beauty of a park, it covers 580 acres and is the largest of the parks, at every twist and turn you feel like you’re in a rainforest, or other tropical climate. The center point is Discovery Island, where you’ll find the 145ft Tree of Life and It’s Tough to be a Bug, a fun 3D show for all the family which includes some hysterical surprises!
We journeyed to Pandora and The World of Avatar, which is so exquisite, a real delight to the eyes, the Na’vi River Journey took us on a boat ride deep into this land of wonder, we just wished it had been longer!
When in Africa you must take the Kilimanjaro Safari and ride across the savanna where we spotted giraffe, elephants, rhinos and lions. Talking of lions, the Festival of the Lion King is such an uplifting and colorful show, it will leave you flying high just like the acrobats.
Wandering through the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail gives you the chance to spot some fine gorilla’s up close, but not too close, we watched them parade about in gorgeous surroundings, rather than the usual enclosures of other zoos.
In Asia you can take a trek through the Maharajah Jungle where you’ll see monkey’s, bats and tigers or enjoy a fun ride on the Kali River Rapids, which will leave you wet or soaked but it’s worth it.
From the moment you enter any one of the Disney World parks you can be sure of great organization; parking is easy, and you barely have any wait for transfers to the park gates. Make sure you remember where you parked because there are literally acres of cars.
Driving down the I-4, we reminisced over our days at each park, we knew that we had made the best decision in getting park passes for each other because we can keep going back for more magic all year long.
